In 2003 Protium Technologies, Inc. acquired certain intellectual property rights from Sierra Networks, Inc. This IP and subsequent R&D activities have resulted in a unique capability to design, develop, and manufacture complex systems based on current digital and RF/microwave technologies.
Protium's key strength is in seamless integration of RF/microwave circuitry with high-speed reconfigurable digital signal processing (DSP).
Typically, a composite substrate is first designed using a variety of materials with appropriate dielectric properties. Circuits using planar RF/microwave devices then bring the signal into a range where high-speed digital processing is feasible. FPGA devices with embedded microprocessor cores then implement the required signal processing algorithms.
This approach results in products that can be quickly reconfigured, often in the field. VHDL code is much easier to modify than printed circuit boards and can result in very considerable savings over the product life cycle.
